Lotus Notes to Exchange Migration with Office 2007

Project Home

Office 2007

The Microsoft Office 2007 suite is being deployed to the campus in preparation of a new email system.

New Email System
Beginning in early July, OCCS will begin moving the university's email system from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange.  Exchange uses Outlook 2007 as the PC-based email client and this product is part of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite.  Please see the Lotus Notes to Exchange Migration project website at http://occs.odu.edu/projects/exchange/exchange.shtml

New Microsoft Office Software
To prepare for the conversion of our email system, it is necessary to update all campus workstations running Windows XP to the new Office 2007 suite for Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. In addition to the base applications, the office suite contains Outlook 2007, Communicator 2007 and many other applications that will be used during the email migration to provide existing and new services to the University.

Why upgrade now to the new version?
We have adopted an aggressive schedule for this deployment beginning June 18th.  The look and feel of Microsoft Office 2007 is significantly different from previous versions.  Our goal with the quick rollout of Microsoft Office 2007 is to provide faculty and staff an opportunity to become familiar with these new base products before the email conversion.

What is the cost of the new version?
Old Dominion University has entered into a Campus Agreement with Microsoft for the Office Software. The Campus Agreement covers the license cost for all University owned computers.  The funding for the Campus Agreement is provided by central units and there is no additional cost for each University owned computer.
