Access Requirements
General Information
Valid Account - Currently ODU is only offering the VCL to select courses being offered. If you are enrolled in one of those courses your instructor will notify you of the availability of the VCL and provide additional information on how to access it. In the near future, this service will be available to all ODU students and will use your MIDAS ID and password for access.
Internet Connection - To use this system you must have a computer with internet connectivity. Since all the processing is done on the VCL, very minimal "computer power" is needed locally. Because many applications can get graphically intensive, the performance of this system will be relative to the speed of your internet connection. Broadband connectivity is recommended. Dial-up connectivity should work, but due to the slow connectivity would not be recommended.
Connecting with Remote Desktop
Windows - Remote Desktop is embedded in the Windows XP and Vista operating system. Updates can be obtained from http://www.microsoft.com
Mac OS X - Remote Desktop Client can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopclient
Linux/Unix - A Remote Desktop Client may be included (rdesktop) or it can be downloaded at http://www.rdesktop.org/
