INSTANT MESSAGING

Old Dominion University is using Microsoft Office Communicator, which is an instant messaging client that interfaces with Microsoft Exchange & Microsoft Outlook.  You can access MS Office Communicator by using the Office Communicator desktop client, or via the web.

To access MS Office Communicator via the web, just go to http://im.odu.edu Once there you will need to sign in with your username & password:

  • Username: use "odunet\your_midas_username"; i.e. if you are jdoe@odu.edu<mailto:jdoe@odu.edu>, your username here would be: odunet\jdoe
  • Password: use your MIDAS password.

If you have MS Office Communicator installed on your computer along with Office 2007, just double click the icon and then you will be prompted for the following information:

  • Sign-in address: use your email address
  • Username: use "odunet\your_midas_username" ; i.e. if you are jdoe@odu.edu<mailto:jdoe@odu.edu>, your username here would be: odunet\jdoe
  • Password: use your MIDAS password.
  • The prompt will look something like this:



    Once you have entered in this information, click Sign In.

Everyone with an ODU faculty or staff email address can use this IM client, though it is not mandatory and many choose not to use it.
