Email Archiving
ODU has an automatic email archiving software called Symantec Enterprise Vault that works in conjunction with our Microsoft Exchange email system.
All Faculty & Staff mailboxes have a 500 MB quota. Once your mailbox reaches this quota, the archiving software will begin archiving older emails until your mailbox is under 500 MB. It will never archive any messages that are less than 1 month old.
Once an email message has been archived, you will still see it in your mailbox, but the icon will look different. The contents of the message will only contain the first 500 characters of the message, and any attachments will be replaced with links to those attachments.
To access your archived message or attachment, you can click on the link to the archived item that is within the email message. Your default web browser will then open up a new tab and prompt you for your username & password. When prompted for your username, it is very important to enter in "odunet\" before your MIDAS ID. For example, if your name was John Doe, and your MIDAS ID was jdoe, and your password was 1234abcd, then you would type in:
Username: odunet\jdoe
Password: 1234abcd
You must enter your username in "odunet\MIDAS ID" format for the system to authenticate you. Sometimes the system will try to automatically populate the username based on your local login name. For example, if John Doe was logged into computer COMP1234, it would try to populate the username field with "COMP1234\jdoe", which will not work. In this case John would need to retype his username so that it is "odunet\jdoe" and then it would work.
